Moka is a search engine with a brain and a heart.
What is the mission?
To offer internet search results as perspectives from humans, so we broaden our perspectives beyond summaries.
To create a visibility platform for bloggers who are currently hidden behind AI-generated summaries, sponsored links, large businesses, heavily optimized SEO content and discussion forums, so they get the readers they ought to have received.
How is it different from ChatGPT?
ChatGPT and the other models are excellent at making lists, quick emergency information, solving maths or code. That is plainly useful. But for questions that require judgment and interpretation, a perspective is required, such as: Should I get a cat or a dog? Should I go for further education or get a job instead? Or is Moka the best way to brew coffee?

Where does Moka get its search data?
Moka has built its own search index from Common Crawl data. This is in the spirit of its intended purpose. In its own words, it says the following. It “maintains a free, open repository of web crawl data that can be used by anyone.”
Moka's index is regularly refreshed against their data. It is fairly extensive, containing billions of pages. If you have a perspective that has been crawled by Common Crawl, it is likely that it is going to feature on Moka.
Moka isn't relying on any other search engine.
What does Moka show?
The purpose is to surface perspectives from real people who are actually saying something about a subject they care about.
Moka makes sure there is an author name behind the webpage. It goes through extensive testing to check whether the name is actually a real person's name. If a picture is found attached to the author, it displays that too. This is to make sure human-written articles are featured.
How does Moka rank perspectives?
Moka ranks perspectives based on relevancy to the search query. It also takes PageRank into account to get a sense of the quality of the page, but relevancy is paramount.
Moka doesn't rely on meta titles and descriptions, which are often keyword-filled for SEO purposes. It relies on the body of the content. What exactly is the webpage saying? What exactly is their view? What is their perspective? If that matches the search query, then that perspective is shown. It is presented in a handful of words. If the searcher finds the perspective interesting, they can explore the entire article.
AI works behind the scenes — to search, read, verify and organise articles. It does not summarise the perspectives in those articles.
